In an effort to celebrate the will and spirit of the entrepreneur, November 2016 was declared National Entrepreneurship Month by President Barack Obama. There are currently 27 million Americans of working age who are starting or currently running their own business, which represents close to 14 percent of that population, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
Now may be a good time for startup owners in Colorado to seek venture capital as a source of funding. The Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Confidence Index for the third quarter of 2016 showed that venture investors are very confident right now. Confidence among venture capitalists has risen by 8 percent since the last index, the largest increase that has been seen since the beginning of 2012.
Colorado businesses are usually allowed to register any of their trademarks as long as no other party has already done so. However, the disparagement provision of the Lanham Act states that a request for trademark registration may be refused if the content of the trademark may disparage persons, institutions, beliefs or national symbols.
Many Colorado residents regularly view television channels that are owned by Time Warner, including HBO, CNN and TNT. On Oct. 20, there was a report that AT&T may acquire Time Warner and all of its subsidiaries. Talks about the deal were serious enough that Time Warner stock trading was temporarily suspended.
